What sweeter way to preserve the precious memories of your family’s beach vacation than with a memorable beach photo shoot! There are so many talented Wilmington NC family photographers to choose from. The beach provides a stunning backdrop for family photos, with its golden sand, crashing waves, and breathtaking sunrises. To ensure that your photo shoot is a success, I am sharing a few tips and tricks.
Timing
Timing is key. We will schedule your beach family photo shoot during golden hour, which is the hour and a half after sunrise or before sunset. The soft, warm lighting during this time is perfect for portraits. During the summer months when the beaches tend to get very busy, I highly recommend a sunrise session. We often have the whole beach to ourselves and you have the rest of the day to relax and enjoy yourself. It’s a win win! If you are traveling here on vacation we always aim to schedule your session during the earlier part of your trip. This way, in the event of inclement weather we will be more likely to have flexibility to reschedule.
Wardrobe
Hands down, choosing what to wear is the most stressful part of your beach family photo shoot. No need to worry or stress about what to wear. We’ve got you covered with a beautifully curated client wardrobe. Instead of spending endless hours shopping and coordinating outfits, you can relax and know it’s all taken care of for you. We will carefully choose wardrobe that will compliment your style and home decor during our pre session consultation.
Location for Beach Family Photo Shoot
There are lots of beautiful beach locations. I shoot all over the Wilmington area, but Topsail Beach and Wrightsville beach are my two favorite beaches to shoot at!

I always strive to get a few photos where everyone is looking and smiling at the camera, but the real magic is in the unscripted and candid moments! When I say candid, don’t worry I won’t leave you hanging figuring out how to pose or what to do. I give lots of direction during my sessions. I will set you up where the lighting is beautiful, you look amazing, and then lead you into candid moments together as a family. Some of the most cherished memories are often captured in these candid moments.

This is where the fun really begins! Your gorgeous images belong where they can be enjoyed daily, on your walls, on your coffee table, and in your heart. In this digital age, we often get caught up in wanting the digital photos. We totally get that and we want you to have them too and all the amazing memories we captured during our time together.
