The Best Location in San Diego for Family Portraits
The best location in San Diego for family portraits, in my opinion is the beach or nature! We will choose the location that best fits your family style for your family portraits. I have several preferred locations where the lighting is dreamy and the settings are beautiful! I am also always up for trying new spots if there is somewhere you love!
Family Portraits at the Beach
The beach is one of my top favorite spot to shoot family portraits! I have always been drawn to the ocean, so naturally I love taking portraits at the beach. There is something about being by the water that makes me so happy, peaceful, and calm.
There are several beaches in San Diego that I am drawn to, especially in Carlsbad and La Jolla. There are multiple shots we can get with being by the ocean! The sand dunes, the waves, and the rocky cliffs give amazing texture to your imagery. The light at the beach during the early morning and evening is always incredible too! With the sunset spilling behind the clouds in pink, dreamy light – you won’t want to spend your session anywhere else.
Family Portraits in Nature
I have a handful of nature settings in San Diego that I absolutely love! If you and your family love being outdoors in nature and the beach is not your thing, this is the perfect location for you! These locations get the most breathtaking dewy light in the mornings and evenings. I love taking maternity and family portrait sessions there. Little ones love to run and romp in the tall grass, and it gives a sense of other-world mystery. Some of the locations get really green and lush during spring, which is perfect for families who want outdoor portraits done. Sometimes they even have beautiful wildflowers during the spring!
Beautiful Natural Light For Outdoor Family Sessions
Another reason I have selected a handful of the best locations is because of the amazing natural light. There are certain hidden spots in the city that are the dreamiest at certain times of day. I want nothing more than for you to feel like your images are natural, organic, and drenched in beautiful light. The best time of day for portrait sessions is either at morning light, or right before sunset. There’s this ethereal glow that comes out during these hours, and presents the perfect time to capture photos.
In-Home Portrait Sessions
I do love documenting lifestyle imagery for families. I am open to doing an in-home lifestyle portrait session if that is what you’d prefer! Check back here on Monday for some stunning imagery of an in-home session with one of my fav families. If you have a location in mind that really speaks to you, I am open to shooting your session there. It could be the place where you got engaged, or where you and your family love to hike. We can discuss options for location at our portrait consultation prior to shooting! That way we can solidify the best location in San Diego for your family portraits.
I typically book 2-3 months in advance. For more information on booking or to reserve a date, please contact me. To see more of the beautiful families I’ve worked with and the locations I shoot at, click here.
